The Indonesian Navy celebrates the occasion of hosting the third seminar of the Indian Ocean Naval Symposium (IONS), by inviting the Representatives officers from all Indian Ocean Naval Symposium member and observers countries from USA, UK and Japan, that will be held in Jakarta

The symposium is considered to be one of the biggest and important maritime conferences to be held in the Indian Ocean Region. The symposium will seek and enhance the development of maritime security cooperation, looking for peace and security for the welfare and happiness of its people.

The Indian Ocean Naval Symposium (IONS) is a voluntary grouping that seeks to increase maritime co-operation among navies of the littoral states of the Indian Ocean Region (IOR) by providing an open discussion of regionally relevant maritime issues in order to generate a flow of information between naval professionals that would lead to common understanding. Therefore the primary aim of the IONS construct is to promote mutually beneficial means, methods and mechanisms of constructive engagement in order to enhance regional maritime security The maritime-security challenges encountered within the Indian Ocean littoral are wide-ranging and diverse. The region is marked by considerable economic diversities, where some of the fastest-growing economies of the world live cheek-by-jowl with other, economically-challenged countries. It is also subject to a variety of security challenges which, while fortunately fall short of state-on-state conflict, still present a significant threat to peace and stability.

Within the maritime environment in the Indian Ocean, threats such as arms, drugs and human trafficking along with Piracy and Terrorist activities represent a pan-oceanic and trans-national network which subverts international boundaries and borders. These threats and challenges cannot be solved by states acting in isolation, but require a common approach and collegiate solutions.

Following the success achieved in the second Seminar, the third will be held in Jakarta – Indonesia during the period from 18 – 19 Oktober 2011 under the chairmanship of Indonesian Navy. The theme of this conference will be: “Anti-Piracy Concept and Preparatory Workshop 2011″

The event will take place in SULTAN hotel in Jakarta, Indonesia. Invitations to participate in the IONS Seminar have been forwarded to all members (32 navies).
